Viewers were left in awe - and slightly heartbroken - last night, after Educating Greater Manchester told the story of one wonderful grandad.

Tom was featured in the programme as he liaised with staff at Harrop Fold School in Salford to improve the attendance and behaviour of his Year 11 granddaughter Kodie. The hands-on grandad was a hit with viewers.

Things took an emotional turn when Tom explained that he raised Kodie after the death of her mother (his daughter) and became tearful speaking about the similarities between them.

Viewers took to Twitter to praise the show for speaking about the many issues young people face at school, and highlighting the incredible work school staff do.
