J.K. Rowling is potentially the Queen of Twitter, whether it’s revealing Harry Potter secrets to her fans, or 'fangirling' over Serena Williams. However it was one recent online altercation that really got the online world talking.

Glasgow East MP Natalie McGarry accused Ms Rowling for “supporting” a misogynistic Twitter user, who goes by the pseudonym Brian Spanner, tweeting out her accusation to her small group of followers.
‘Wow @jk_rowling vanity searches her name & then defends abusive misogynist trolls. Almost makes me regret queuing for books,’ she tweeted yesterday evening.
This caused a late night Twitter spat between the MP and the famous author who replied, ‘You are a politician making a public accusation. Show me where I have defended abusive, misogynistic trolling.’
Ms McGarry was referring to Rowling calling Brian Spanner, a “good man” after he raised money for her children’s charity Lumos. However McGarry was unimpressed, as the Twitter account in question is frequently used to troll fellow SNP politicians.

But J.K. Rowling was so unimpressed with the accusations (which is unsurprising considering she frequently champions women’s achievements and calls out trolls herself), that she’s threatened legal action!
‘You don’t appear to understand how Twitter or defamation works,’ she tweeted Natalie at 10:12pm yesterday evening. ‘I’m going to help with the latter.’
She later said any damages won would go straight to her charity Lumos.
McGarry’s Twitter account has since been made private, clearly signalling the end of that spat. But it certainly got tongues wagging, and both their names were trending in the UK during the online altercation. One thing's for certain, NEVER get on the wrong side of Ms Rowling!
