You'd be forgiven for assuming those in the public eye don't have all that much time to devote to individual fans. But this week, J.K. Rowling proved that, in her case, that simply isn't true, when she went over and above with her efforts to publicly reassure a hugely distressed fan.

The Harry Potter author's follower - who refers to himself as 'Brocaesar' on Twitter - sent a tweet to Rowling, acknowledging that she might not notice what he had to say in amongst all 'the noise'. But he then proceeded to reveal himself as being in a very dark place indeed, writing that he has 'failed to find meaning and wants to finally give up'.

But rather than sweeping the fan's disturbing message under the Twittersphere carpet, J.K. Rowling responded in what can only be described as a magical way.

Lump in your throat, anyone?

And it seems Rowling wasn't the only person to respond to Brocaesar's tweet with warmth; a host of users on the social network also chimed in with their words of positivity and encouragement.

Thankfully, it seems that J.K. Rowling's words made a huge difference, and Brocaesar's next tweet demonstrated just how much impact her perspective had caused.

It's great to see a social media platform used in such a positive way, for once. In among all the trolling, and negative behaviour it often accomodates, this time it seems to have made a real difference for the greater good.
