Budget airline Ryanair have introduced a new policy this week to try and stop passengers drinking their own alcohol on board. Opening and consuimg your own alcoholic drinks on flights has been banned in the UK for a long time; you are legally only allowed to drink alcohol provided by the airline - and this new rule from Ryanair aims to ensure that is adhered to.

If you have purchased any alcohol at departures duty free or the gate, even once you are through security, Ryanair will now confiscate this from you. If there is a suitable bag available, it can go in the hold of the plane - or else it will simply be thrown away!

To properly enforce this, cabin baggage could be searched before boarding, and if you are found to have booze on your person, you could even be stopped from boarding. It seems this new policy will apply to all passengers, whether they are 17 year old party-goers or a retired couple wanting to enjoy a week on the Balearic island.
