Even though Whoopi, Sara, Joy, Sunny, Alyssa and Ana are all staples on The View, it's not often one of them is not on TV for an extended period of time. But such was the case on June 23, when viewers realized Whoopi was not on their screens and Joy was in her place.
So, where is Whoopi Goldberg and why isn't she on The View? Well, Joy made sure to clue folks in on what's going on — and it turns out she won't be on TV for some time.
Where is Whoopi Goldberg on The View?
While viewers may be worried about Whoopi being absent from The View, there's no need to stress. According to Joy on the June 23 taping, Whoopi is taking some time away for a reason that's personal to her.
"We are all jealous of Whoopi today because she's in Italy — I hope it's 100 degrees," Joy shared about Whoopi's hiatus from The View, per Entertainment Weekly. "She's in Italy accepting an award for her book Bits and Pieces, so she will be out this week."
Whoopi confirmed this on Instagram, posting a photo of her being honored at the gala for the 15th annual Taobuk Taormina International Book Festival, an event held in Sicily that celebrates the world of literature.
"Thank you (Grazie!) @taobukfestival for giving me a beautiful experience in an extraordinary environment, an honorable award and your kindness," she wrote alongside the photo on June 22. "Books are so important to all the world."
When will Whoopi Goldberg be back on The View?
The same Entertainment Weekly article also noted that Whoopi is expected to return to The View on Monday, July 7, 2025.
As for why Whoopi's hiatus will be so long, the show takes its yearly summer hiatus for the July 4 weekend. But for now, Joy will take Whoopi's place as moderator for the co-hosts until she comes back from a much-needed break.
