Malbec is a certified crowd-pleaser, and this organic drop is ideal for enjoying in the lead up to Christmas. As a medium-bodied red, it’s excellent with dark turkey meat, pork and lamb, as well as mushroom-based sauces and blue cheese. Expect forest fruits, a touch of black pepper and subtle spice.

A blend of Greece’s indigenous assyrtiko grape and sauvignon blanc, this was our top-rated organic white wine (and it's also vegan!).

Deliciously refreshing, with racing acidity, you’ll enjoy a nuttier profile to classic sauvignon blanc, alongside mouth-watering minerality and tropical fruit.

Rich and spicy red fruit takes the lead here, but soft tannins ensure this is a very approachable, exceptionally smooth wine, made with certified-organic grenache and syrah grapes. Our panel felt this would be best suited to light meat dishes, such as redcurrant glazed lamb.

Made with grenache blanc (or garnatxa blanc as it’s known in Catalonia), it has complex notes of honeysuckle, ripe peach and baked apples. Try pairing with oily fish such as tuna, or creamy baked goat cheese.

Made predominantly from cinsault grapes, this organic rosé is full of complexity, with red apple, cherry blossom and red berries at the fore. Super refreshing, this crowd-pleasing bottle makes for easy drinking over long lunches.

This spicy Australian grenache is an excellent dinner party choice. Pair with intensely flavoured meat, such as duck or smoked charcuterie, to allow the more leathery, earthy flavours to come to the fore.

In Sicily, you’ll often find syrah blended with nero d'avola, a sun-loving red grape that when left to dry naturally as it is here, develops a delicious concentrated flavour. With sweet wild strawberries on the nose, and rich raisins and cherries on the palate, our testers loved the satisfyingly long finish.

Aside from being certified-organic, it's made in a carbon-neutral winery, and is also vegan.

Although the Douro Valley is primarily known for its port, it’s also home to intense and fresh reds such as this, made with a blend of native wine varieties. Dominated by black fruit and flecked with savoury black pepper, testers enjoyed the complexity, suggesting it would pair well with a hearty stew.

Not only is our best budget buy organic, it also boasts Fairtrade credentials too. It’s a classic, bold Argentinian malbec — think plump, dark fruit flavours and a spicy finish — but with firm tannins and a well-rounded savoury edge, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was much more expensive.

One tester described it as “dangerously drinkable”, and we’d have to agree.

In case you were in any doubt, the “O” is for organic — not that you’ll need any excuse for another glass of this impressive Chilean chardonnay. Sweeter tropical notes are balanced with grapefruit acidity, leading to a long creamy finish that impressed our panel.

Based in California, Bonterra has been making organic vino long before it became trendy. In true cab sav-style, expect a deep ruby colour, rich blackcurrant and cherry, and a subtle touch of liquorice.

With pronounced tannins, we’d pair this with a juicy steak — a fattier cut such as ribeye or sirloin — cooked medium-rare.

Selfridges' own-brand organic red also fared well with our testers. Deliciously aromatic, this grenache (or garnacha as it’s known in Spain), is packed with textbook red fruit and a spicy, silky smooth finish. It’s a perfect BBQ red, whether you’re sticking to veggie burgers or meaty kebabs.

We think this is an extra special pinot noir. Super smooth and easy to drink, it displays well-integrated oak and earthy mushroom notes, alongside light raspberry and cherry.
