Are TVs cheaper on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the UK?

Yes, TVs are among the most heavily discounted items during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the UK.

Retailers like Currys, Amazon, and John Lewis are offering significant reductions across a variety of models, from flagship OLEDs to value 4K sets.

Popular brands including LG, Sony, and Samsung feature in the sale, so it’s worth comparing offers across multiple retailers to find the best deal.

Is it better to wait for Black Friday and Cyber Monday to buy a TV?

Absolutely. For those aiming to maximise their savings, Black Friday is one of the best times of the year to buy a TV. Prices often drop lower than standard discounts.

Some stores also offer price matching, so it’s smart to grab a TV during the Black Friday weekend or on Cyber Monday to ensure you’re getting the best value.

What is Black Friday in the UK?

Black Friday is one of the largest retail events in the UK, initially inspired by the American shopping holiday following Thanksgiving.

Both online and high-street retailers offer substantial markdowns across categories, but electronics – and TVs in particular – often see some of the best discounts.

When does Black Friday end?

This year, Black Friday falls on 29 November 2024, with discounts continuing throughout the weekend and into Cyber Monday on 2 December 2024.

Most, although perhaps not all, of the Black Friday discounts will expire at the end of the 2 December 2024.

How long do the Black Friday sales last?

While Black Friday itself is just one day, sales now frequently span several weeks. Many retailers launch early Black Friday deals in early November, and some discounts carry over into "Cyber Week".

The best offers tend to be available over the Black Friday weekend and often extend through to Cyber Monday, so we'd anticipate that they'll conclude at the end of the day on 2 December.

What is the best TV to buy right now?

Luckily, at the Good Housekeeping Institute, we’ve been testing the best TVs throughout 2024.

Panasonic’s MZ2000 is the top option for those seeking a cinematic experience at home. It was the top scorer after our rigorous tests, earning 97/100.

It combines Panasonic’s ultra-bright OLED panel with Dolby Atmos sound, producing a rich, vibrant image and immersive audio. It’s available in either 55-inch, 65-inch or 77-inch sizes and the TV’s gaming-friendly features and intuitive light-sensing adjustments make it versatile and user-friendly, although it’s at a premium price point and recently has been harder to find in stock.

Scoring 95/100, Sony's A80L is a superb value-for-money OLED TV. With excellent picture quality, vibrant colours, and 50W Acoustic Surface Audio for crisp, powerful sound, it's ideal for binge-watching your favourite shows, while effective motion handling ensures smooth live sports viewing, too.

Another high-scoring model is Samsung’s QE65S95D (93/100), a bright OLED TV with an anti-reflective screen, that excels in rooms with ample lighting. Though it lacks Dolby Vision support, it has great gaming features, making it a versatile all-rounder (available in 55-inch, 65-inch or 77-inch variants).

If you’re looking for some value picks, Hisense and TCL offer impressive options. Hisense’s 65U8NQTUK (90/100) is an affordable Mini LED TV (sold only in 65-inch and 75-inch sizes) with great brightness and Dolby Atmos sound, suited for bright rooms and gaming with its 120Hz support.

TCL’s C805 Mini LED (86/100) provides exceptional picture quality at under £600, with Google TV support and 144Hz gaming compatibility, making it a top choice for budget-conscious buyers who still want premium features. It comes in a wide range of six sizes from 50 inches to 98 inches.

For bright room viewing, Samsung’s QN85C Neo QLED (88/100) delivers vibrant images and solid audio performance, marking it as a strong all-purpose option (available at 55-inch, 65-inch, 75-inch or 85-inch screen sizes).
