Best wireless mouse: 8 to buy for maximum comfort and control

This is Logitech’s top-of-the-range wireless mouse, and we found it a real pleasure to use. It was exceptionally easy to connect, as it has both Bluetooth and a wireless connection — provided by the Logi Bolt USB receiver it comes bundled with. As soon as we switched the mouse on, our Windows laptop immediately detected the mouse and asked if we wanted to pair it.

During testing, we only had to move the mouse slightly to control the cursor, and it was also comfortable to use for long periods. It has two scroll wheels — the second being a horizontal wheel just above the thumb rest — along with seven different buttons.

All the buttons can be customised quickly using the Logi Options+ software, which takes you step-by-step through the process and also displays the battery level. We were even able to assign different actions to the button for different programs, such as Word or PowerPoint.The MX Master 3S can be paired with up to three devices, and using the button on the bottom you can quickly switch between them, making it a good option for use with both your work and personal laptops, as well as desktop computers and even tablets.

We used the mouse over both the Bluetooth and wireless connections and found that they were equally stable, with so little latency we were unable to detect it during usual work tasks, such as scrolling through spreadsheets and webpages.

The Logi Bolt receiver can be used to connect up to six Logitech devices to your laptop at any one time, so if you invest in one of the best wireless keyboards, you don’t need to use up an additional USB port with another receiver.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive mouse for occasional use, this model from Acer is ideal as it’s one of the most affordable on the market. It‘s also the lightest mouse in this round-up and compact, making it ideal for taking to and from the office.

The Acer Vero was extremely easy to set up and just required the USB dongle to be plugged into our laptop before the mouse was instantly recognised. However, it’s not as sensitive as other models in this roundup and requires our hand to move a little more to control the cursor. With no Bluetooth connection, it also won’t be suitable for anyone with a more modern laptop with only USB-C ports.

We did find its low profile design was uncomfortable when used for longer periods, especially during intricate tasks that require the cursor to be moved short distances a lot. We were also slightly disappointed that there's no USB dongle storage inside the mouse — something you find on some of the Logitech, Predator and Trust models in this list. But considering the price, it’s a reliable entry-level option that will be adequate for occasional use.

This mid-range wireless mouse combines some of the features found on its high-end MX Master 3S, such as the ability to customise the buttons and scroll wheel through the Option+ software, in a more compact form. It’s also the lightest of all the Logitech models we’ve tested, making it great for throwing in your bag if you’re a hybrid worker.

It has both Bluetooth and wireless connections, but unlike the Master MX 3S and the Logitech Lift, it doesn’t come with a Logi Bolt receiver in the box, but you can purchase one separately if you don’t already have a wireless keyboard that comes with a Logi Bolt receiver.

That said, as soon as we switched the mouse on, it was instantly identified by our Windows laptop, to make for a quick set-up. It was just as accurate in use, with very little movement of the mouse required to control the cursor.

However, we found the low profile design, which provides very little wrist support, uncomfortable to use for intricate tasks such as creating cutouts in Photoshop.

The Lift’s unique design may not look like a mouse that would be comfortable to use for long periods at a time, but during testing we found this was exactly the case — we barely had to move the mouse to activate the cursor, even when working on intricate tasks.

According to Logitech, the unusual design sees your wrist placed in what it dubs “a natural handshake position”, which causes less stress on the wrist than when holding a traditional mouse.

Just like the Logitech MX Master 3S and MX Anywhere 3S, the Lift has both Bluetooth and wireless connections, making it simple to set up. It comes bundled with the Logi BoIt receiver, and it’s the only Logitech model in this round-up to feature storage for the receiver in the bottom of the mouse.

During testing, we found the Lift was detected by our laptop as soon as we’d removed the tab to activate the batteries. It’s also compatible with the Options+ software, so you customise the actions performed when pressing any of the mouse’s four buttons. We tested the right-handed version, but there’s also a left-handed model available.

Logitech says this is best suited to small or medium hands, so if you’re buying for someone with large hands then consider the ergonomic Logitech MX Vertical or MX Master 3S.

With the highest DPI of all the models we’ve tested in this round-up, and the ability to create customised game modes that adjust the settings such as DPI along with pointer, scroll and click speed to predefined levels at the touch of a button, the Predator Cestus 350 is a ideal for those that want a wireless mouse primarily for gaming.

During testing, it was simple to set up. Once we plugged the USB into our laptop, and switched the mouse on, it took just a few seconds before we were able to control the cursor with the device. However, there’s no Bluetooth connection, making it less suited to laptops that only feature USB-C ports.

The mouse scroll wheel and logo illuminate in a range of colours, with different colours indicating when different game modes have been selected. The game modes can be customised using the Predator QuarterMaster software but we were disappointed that there were no prompts to download this software once the mouse was connected. Instead, we had to peruse the manual to find out how to get access to the software.

We were impressed that you can adjust the DPI on the fly using the button below the scroll wheel, and we also loved the four handy LEDs on the left-hand side of the mouse, which details how much battery is left. However, we found the scroll wheel didn’t glide as smoothly as other models we tested.

The fourth and final Logitech mouse in this round-up, the Pebble Mouse 2 is a slim, rounded device that can be used in either the left or right hand. At 76g, it’s the lightest Logitech model we’ve tested, and puts simplicity at the heart of its design, featuring just two buttons and a scroll wheel with a built-in button.

Just like the other Logitech models, it can be connected via Bluetooth or using wireless but you’ll need a Logi Bolt, as it doesn’t come bundled with the mouse. On test, it was very simple to set up, being identified just as quickly as the other Logitech models we’ve looked at once we pulled the battery tab out.

It has the same ability to customise the actions performed by the buttons and scroll wheel click as the Logitech Lift, and the same sensitivity too. We found we barely had to move the mouse to activate the cursor, however, the low profile design doesn’t provide much wrist support and we found it was uncomfortable to use when performing intricate tasks for long periods.

If you’re looking to be more sustainable and want a rechargeable wireless mouse rather than one that’s powered by AA batteries, this HP model is our pick when it comes to battery life. It lasts up to 90 days between charges, making it the longest-lasting rechargeable mouse alongside the Trust Bayo II.

We found this HP model, which is ambidextrous, glided well across a range of surfaces and only required a small amount of movement to control the cursor. It can be connected via Bluetooth or wireless, and comes with a built-in receiver that can be stowed neatly underneath the top cover of the mouse when not in use to ensure you don’t misplace it.

During testing, it was simple to set up and the button on the bottom made it easy to switch the mouse between three different devices, although once you’ve connected two using Bluetooth, the third device can only be connected using the wireless receiver. We were also disappointed there were no prompts to download the software that lets you customise the actions of the buttons.

Sporting a similar design to the Logitech Lift, this model from Trust is almost half the price, making it ideal for those looking for an ergonomic design on a budget. During testing, it was just as comfortable to use as the Logitech Lift, and we barely had to move the mouse to activate the cursor, even when working on intricate tasks.

It has six buttons, including two buttons that can be controlled by the thumb and allow you to skip forwards and backwards through web pages and documents. There’s also a button underneath the scroll wheel, which adjusts the dpi. However, unlike other models in this round-up, the actions of these buttons can’t be customised.

It’s also not an ambidextrous mouse and with no left-handed version available — something the Logitech’s ergonomic model offers — it won’t be suitable for everyone.

We found it was simple to set up, and only required the wireless receiver to be inserted into our laptop before the mouse was instantly identified and could start being used. Even better, when not in use the wireless receiver can be stored in a compartment underneath the mouse. However, with no Bluetooth connection, this model won’t be suitable for those who only have USB-C ports on their laptop.

The Logitech MX Anywhere 3S for Mac offers the same compact, lightweight, and versatile design as the MX Anywhere 3S but is styled specifically for Mac users. It’s available in “Space Grey” and “Pale Grey” to seamlessly complement Apple devices.

With Logitech’s metal scroll wheel, customisable buttons, and impressive battery life, this mouse is highly portable and an ideal pick for hybrid workers who need reliability on the go. It can also pair with iPads, but so can the MX Anywhere 3S, and we think it’s important to be clear that this is simply the same mouse in different styles.

Though compact, it delivers impressive accuracy and fast, smooth performance across various surfaces. We find it comfortable to use for a full workday, but the low-profile design may not be as ergonomic as some rival options for prolonged use.
