Ahead of Prime Day 2024, Amazon has introduced a revamped version of its Echo Spot, a smart speaker and alarm clock that puts the handy functionality of its Alexa voice assistant into its most bedside-friendly design yet.

Releasing at a lower price than its predecessor (which came out in late 2017), the new Echo Spot offers several enhancements including “better visuals and improved audio quality”, more smart home capabilities and a great range of colours.

The best news? It’s available at a limited-time discount for Amazon Prime members - down to £49.99 from the regular price of £79.99, a great 38% off.

What to read next

Amazon Echo Spot: At a glance

  • It has a compact design for bedside use
  • It shares some design similarities with the cheapest Echo speaker, the Echo Pop — both have an angled front speaker
  • However, the Echo Spot also has a 2.83-inch touchscreen
  • It has a gradual lighting display and customisable clock faces, making it an ideal smart alarm clock, and it can also show images when you ask for the weather
  • Like all Echo speakers, it has Alexa integration for voice commands and smart home control
  • It has a 1.73-inch front-firing directional speaker — this is a little smaller than the Echo Pop and, while similar to the Echo Dot, it does have fewer speaker drivers than that model — we would expect to notice only a minor sound quality difference between this and comparable Alexa speakers
  • Echo Spot colours: it comes in black, white, or blue
  • Echo Spot price: the launch price is £79.99, but this early Prime Day deal takes it down to £49.99
  • The deal is on now and ends on 17 July

The updated Echo Spot no longer has the built-in camera that didn’t make as much sense for the previous version of the bedside-focused speaker in the first place, and that has helped to lower the cost.

Amazon says the audio experience is better and using the Echo Spot is optimised with custom clock faces, six vibrant colour schemes, and four new alarm sounds.

It offers a solid range of connectivity options, including wifi, Bluetooth, and Matter support for smart home devices.

It’s easy to talk to Alexa and ask for news updates, get the weather forecast, set timers and alarms, control your smart plugs and robot vacuum, and place audio calls to other people you know with Alexa speakers in their homes.

What it’s most designed to be, though, is a smart alarm clock. It has gradual lighting within its display to slowly wake you up in the morning, and you can set songs, playlists or one of those new alarms as your wake-up sounds.

That small design is also going to make it a good fit for any bedside table, and the little screen will be handy for late-night or early-morning updates on your reminders or the song that’s playing from your music streaming service. It’ll also be useful for seeing how long is left on your timer without having to ask Alexa.

We’re hoping to get our hands on the device for a review soon but if you’re already certain you want it, we wouldn’t wait around.

This is a good opportunity to upgrade your bedside setup, and the new Echo Spot is set to be a useful and versatile device. If you’re convinced, make sure you snap up the deal soon.

As an Amazon Prime member, you’re able to take advantage of the £49.99 discount from now until July 17, while stocks last. Not a Prime member yet? You can sign up for the free trial and still access the bargain, as well as all the upcoming Amazon Prime Day tech deals we’re awaiting next week.
