Here at the Good Housekeeping Institute we were very excited to hear about a new range of carpets from Carpetright which promise to resist all food and drink spills. Never able to resist a challenge, GHI testers armed with bottles of red wine, cups of tea and coffee and fruit juice we put them to the test. Results were impressive, the fibres which have a special coating designed to prevent liquids being absorbed really did their job. The spills could be mopped up easily without leaving a mark.

The two ranges, Two Step Plus £14.99 and Kosset Twist Plus £24.99 both look good and are available in a range of colours. On the downside, the anti-static fibres do feel quite harsh and not as soft and luxurious underfoot as other types. However that's a small price to pay if you have a brood of kids, with pets in tow, constantly running in and out of the house. If you need further convincing, the carpets come with a lifetime guarantee against staining – just make sure you have it professionally fitted and hold onto the receipt!
