Here at the Good Housekeeping Institute we were very excited to get a first glimpse of the new PowerDry dishwasher from Whirlpool, which claims to deliver excellent cleaning and drying performance in less than an hour. Quick washes aren’t new but what its ability to thoroughly dry plastic is, as many other machines fail to do this. The PowerDry uses a new drying technology which sucks out the steam, condenses it and then drains the water out of the machine. This means there’s no steam at the end of the cycle when you open the door. It has a series of high pressure jets for tackling burnt on soils and it uses sensors to detect the level of soiling in the wash load and control the water consumption.

We like the idea of the self-cleaning filter which regenerates water every few seconds to remove food particles, saving you the hassle. The machine  has a A+++ energy efficiency and uses a minimal 10 litres of water to wash 13 place settings.

It sounds impressive but the proof is in the washing, so we’ll let you know if it lives up to expectations in the coming weeks.
