Your Kindle deserves a proper case for style and protection

These are the options we’d pick

So, you just bought a new Kindle and want to keep it safe with a case. You’ve come to the right place. Each Amazon e-book reader is a slightly different size, so you’ll want to make sure you pick a design that fits the model you’ve bought, and you may have to decide whether you want to prioritise overall protection or add a bit of personality to your new portable library.

Top Kindle cases

We’ve carefully considered the options and tried several different Kindle cases and sleeves – for all the latest releases of the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Scribe – to come up with our top recommendations.

While our list is made up of both official and third-party options, based on research and our hands-on testing, many of the picks here are Amazon’s own-brand covers.

That’s because, while they’re not the cheapest designs you can find, they provide full protection, fit perfectly, come in fabric and leather-like materials, and can control the wake/sleep features to make your Kindle feel much more like a real book when you open and close it.

Fabric Amazon Kindle case

Kindle Case - Fabric

For reliable and affordable protection, our first suggestion would always be to look at the thin and lightweight “fabric” cases for Kindles. They’ve got a textured exterior that’s easy to grip and folds all the way over, using magnets to keep it securely shut.

It supports automatic wake/sleep functionality for your Kindle too, and is available in a range of five colours, including a “Matcha Green” that will suit the corresponding new Kindle colour perfectly. This same fabric case is also available in Jade, Black and Raspberry for the Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Edition.

Leather-like Kindle Paperwhite case

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft – Plant-Based Cover

Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft – Plant-Based Cover

Made from 76% “plant-based” materials, this case for the Kindle Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature Edition is crafted from corn and viscose fibre along with 24% hard-wearing polyurethane. It offers many of the same benefits as the regular fabric case – including the automatic wake/sleep support, foldable design with magnets, and soft microfibre interior for screen protection – but costs a little more due to the material.

Amazon used to sell a high-quality leather cover for the Paperwhite, but has now replaced it with this plant-based version. After trying it hands-on, we can confirm it provides a grippy texture and reliable protection, but doesn’t quite have the feel of real leather. The brand doesn’t sell a version for the entry-level Kindle, but it does make a plant-based cover for the Kindle Scribe, available in Jade and Black.

Fabric Kindle Scribe case

Amazon Kindle Scribe Fabric Folio Case

A price of £55 may feel quite steep for a Kindle case, but there are some notable benefits with this Kindle Scribe cover. Firstly, this fabric model is just as suited for the 2022 variant of the Kindle Scribe as it is for the latest release from 2024, and it lets you stash your stylus in a dedicated holder. There's also an angled stand position that we can see being useful whether you’re reading or taking notes.

One thing to note about this case is that it’s more of a “folio” style that attaches with magnets, so it doesn’t offer wrap-around protection for the corners of your Scribe. It’s a cleverly-designed, lightweight and stylish cover, but we think it might be worth looking at a compatible Kindle Scribe sleeve if you want comprehensive protection.

It has a useful hand strap for comfortable reading, something that’s particularly beneficial for these models which are a little larger to use one-handed compared to the smallest Kindle – this could be an absolute lifesaver if you’re reading while standing on a commuter train, for example.

This affordable case will set you back only a tenner and will work if you’ve got a 6.8-inch or 7-inch Kindle like the Paperwhite or Colorsoft. It uses a stretchy silicone material to grip your e-book reader and has a built-in stand. As a cheaper case, though, you might find it harder to get a perfect fit.

At only £15, this is a significantly cheaper case than the (£30) fabric Kindle design. It still supports automatic wake/sleep and has a magnetic closure and soft microfibre lining for the screen. We’ve linked to the most affordable black colourway, and it’s worth noting that the floral and more colourful designs can cost around £18 or £19, depending on which style you pick.

A flappy Kindle case isn’t for everyone, so these clear options tend to be a hit with those wanting to personalise their Kindle with their own stickers. It's designed just to cover the back of your Kindle and is available in “frosted”, “black” and completely clear styles, with some fun designs featuring glitter or flowers too.

They’re all quite affordable, and some of the styles have added grip and reinforced corners too. It’s worth noting that this case is available for the 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite, too.

Comfyable Sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite

Sleeve for Kindle Paperwhite

If you’d prefer not to add extra bulk to your Kindle while you’re using it but need something to keep it safe while in transit, you’re probably after a sleeve like this that’ll offer a snug fit and enough protection from any bumps and scratches while you carry it in your bag. The faux leather cover has a soft felt lining and comes in four classic colours.

We’ve also spotted this slim Kindle sleeve from Harber London, if you’d prefer a genuine leather that’ll age with a unique patina over time. However, this appears to only be made for certain older Kindles and we’re unsure if it will be available for the newest models. There are some leather Kindle sleeves and cases on Etsy that may be worth checking out too.
