Designed to pick up dirt as it moves forwards and backwards, this intuitive model captured and lifted 99.9 per cent of dust from all the surfaces we tried it on. Auto-detection also boosts the power as you pass over dirtier areas to ensure a top-quality clean every time.

The battery lasts for just over 10 minutes (it takes roughly four hours to recharge) but this should be long enough for you to clean a small car. The device is slightly weighty and doesn’t have any onboard storage for additional tools, but it's an all-round excellent performer.

This nifty handheld vacuum is a great buy if your home has a lot of hard floors, as it scored top marks for pick-up on laminate and floorboards.
It also excelled at lifting dirt from cars thanks to its featherlight design and its upholstery tool lifted pet hair well. It recharges in around three hours and its charging case base can be mounted on the wall if you're short on space.

You can currently get Shark’s best spot cleaner for under £100 although there's currently a bit of a delay on delivery. If you can wait, it's a fantastic spot washer for tackling both immediate and dried-in stains on upholstery, and testers were impressed by how dry surfaces were left after cleaning.
Dried-in mud and red wine stains on carpet were more stubborn, but if you tackle spills and messes quickly, this is a smart investment.

Another top performing cordless vacuum from Shark. What's unique about this model? It features built in air-freshening technology to combat stale smells. Its cleaning credentials are equally impressive – it lifted pet hair in one sweep and gobbled up every last speck of the biscuit crumbs laid on carpet.
Like all Shark machines, it’s intuitively designed, and while its battery doesn't last very long on turbo mode (around 12 minutes on test), it runs for 35 minutes on the standard setting and comes with a second battery. Not that you really need to worry about switching between modes as the “clean sense IQ” technology will automatically ramp up the power if it detects a notably dirty spot.

Note, this was most effective at straight styling, so look to something else if you're after big bouncy curls. That said, it did deliver lots of volume at the roots for our satisfied panellists.
