One of the best vacuum cleaners is an essential household appliance. And if you can time upgrading yours with a sale (or your vacuum is considerate enough to coordinate its breakdown), all the better, because many of the top-rated vacuum cleaners are expensive.
Luckily, the Amazon Prime Day sales are bigger and better than ever this year and many of our favourite vacuum brands are discounted, so whether you want a cordless, upright, or robot vacuum, it's the perfect time to shop. However, the sale ends at midnight tonight (11 July) so you only have just over an hour to secure the best deals.
And so that you know it's a great deal, we've only included models rigorously tested and approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute below. These have been put through their prices in our floor cleaning room (yes, we have one!). Cordless vacuum cleaner deals

While it's not technically an Amazon Prime Day deal, our winning cordless vacuum is still discounted with £200 off, so we think it deserves a spot on this list.
Barely dropping a mark on test, this vacuum is designed to pick up dirt as it moves backwards and forwards. Plus, it picked up 99.9% of dust in the lab.

This is one of our best value stick vacuums. It has a 45-minute run time (seriously!) and performed almost faultlessly in our cleaning tests – it only lost marks for slight pet hair tangling. For every other task, it worked like a dream.
It's lightweight and has a flexible hose, so you can reach under the furniture more easily. You can even mount it on the wall and it comes with helpful accessories including a turbo brush and crevice tool.

With excellent dust pick-up across a range of floor types, this is another great value cordless vacuum. It's well-balanced, easy to use, and it flexes in the middle making it easier to reach under furniture.
There are only two power modes and the boost mode used up the battery life quickly, but give it a full charge before any deep cleans, and you'll be good to go.

With a neat storage station and powerful pick-up on test, this good value vacuum impressed our experts. Hair didn't tangle, and it's lightweight, so it moved smoothly.
It doesn't have the longest battery life when used on max, so bear in mind that one charge may not be enough for a big home or car cleaning.
Robot vacuum cleaner deals

With excellent cleaning power and an easy to use, intuitive app, it was no surprise that this Dyson came out as the winner in our robot vacuum tests. And this is a good discount on a premium machine.
It can adjust suction to suit the floor type it's tackling and will also notify you if there are areas you need to tackle yourself, ensuring your home is always looking spick and span.

This clever robot features a dual water tank, which means it collects dirty water and cleans the mop as it goes. Smart, right? It did a good job of lifting dirt and dust across a range of surfaces and it navigated obstacles well.
The multi-tasking docking station offers a virtually hands-free user experience and its height allows for easy access, so you don't have to bend or kneel. It is on the heavier side, though, but right now, you can nab it for less than £1,000.

This robot vacuum is over 30% off, so there's no better time to switch to robot cleaning power. It scored highly across dust and crumb pick-up and even mopped our floors effectively in one sweep.
The docking station is bulky so you'll need space to find a permanent home for it but it's worth it as it recharges the robot, empties the bin and refills the water tank – all without you needing to lift a finger.

The already affordable price tag of this robot has just got even better. And it has the performance to match – it collected crumbs and pet hair without a fuss, and excelled at mopping our hard floors.
Dust pick-up wasn't the most impressive of the models we've tested so it's best used for easy, top-up daily cleans than deep ones.

This robot has legs (yes, really) and is currently 25% off for Amazon Prime Day. It can only take little steps, managing obstacles up to 6cm, but it successfully tackled the edges of doors and other obstacles when we tested the function in the lab. Plus, it picked up larger crumbs with ease, making it a great choice for staying on top of everyday messes.
Upright vacuum cleaner deals
Score: 90/100
This pet-specific upright vacuum cleaner has a mini rotating brush to agitate the carpet fibres and lift hair more easily. In fact, it scored perfect marks for pet hair removal and its anti twist technology stopped any strands from tangling in the brush roller.
Because of its size, it struggled to reach room edges but it's still a worthy buy.

Testers awarded this vacuum full marks for its design; it was easy to use and had clear controls and instructions. It's relatively portable and has a comfortable handle.
It glided across our surfaces and cleared dust with aplomb. All pet hair vanished in one sweep, too.
Handheld vacuum cleaner deals
Score: 94/100
This put in a winning performance for dirt pick-up on test. In fact, it lifted 99% of dust laid. The battery lasts for just over 10 minutes, so it should be enough for cleaning a small car. And it has a dedicated pet hair tool, which lifted everything in one sweep.

This joint best handheld vacuum has a great battery life, lasting 20 minutes on test, even on max power.
So, if you need a model for a bigger car, this is the vacuum for you. LED lights help you spot debris too, and the bagged design means emptying is mess-free.

This lightweight handheld vacuum impressed our experts with its performance on hard flooring, making it a good pick if your floors are primarily wood or laminate. The crevice tool also makes it a go-to for car cleaning.

This new handheld vacuum from Dyson promises a lot and we found it difficult to fault its suction on carpet, laminate and floorboards.
Its battery only lasts 10-15 minutes on max mode but stick to standard and you should be all set for cleaning your car…or boat.

For picking up dust and crumbs, this is a handy vacuum to have in your cupboard. It's compact and lightweight and powerful enough for most quick spills and cleans. Testers found it struggled with pet hair, but you'll probably want a full size vacuum for that anyway.
