House plants can transform your living spaces. Not only do they look good, but their air purifying abilities mean they do good, too. They can even improve our mood and help reduce stress levels.

And while we love a trip to the garden centre, there are now plenty of online plant delivery services that will drop your new greenery right to your doorstep.

Looking for a gift for a green-fingered friend or family member? Many services also offer extras such as gift cards, chocolates and hand creams as add-ons, so you can curate the perfect present within a few quick clicks.

But how do you know if your plants will arrive in tip-top condition? And, if it's a gift, will it arrive on time? That’s where the Good Housekeeping Institute can help, as we have put a range of online plant delivery services to the test to find the very best.

At a glance, these are our testers' top-rated services, but scroll on for everything you need to know.

We've also tried and tested the best flower delivery services if you want some blooms instead.

What are the hardest plants to kill?

If you’re a new plant parent or are gifting one to someone who doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to keeping greenery alive, look for hardy plants that are easy to care for – whether that’s because they require little watering or little light.

We've created an extensive guide to the best indoor plants to invest in, but here is a quick rundown of some of our favourites.

    • Pothos or devil’s ivy: This trailing plant has heart-shaped leaves and thrives in indirect sunlight. It can even grow in low and artificial light. Watering them once every one to two weeks is plenty.
    • Spider plant: The one spider you don’t need to fear. With its curly leaves, this plant brings character to any space. You don’t need to worry about repotting them often and they also have air purifying powers.
    • Aloe vera: The tall, stiff leaves of the aloe vera plant are known for their healing and beautifying properties, but did you know they're also fairly difficult to kill? While they like a long drink, they don’t require frequent watering, so a good soaking every few weeks will do just fine.

How to care for your house plants

Whether you think of yourself as a plant whisperer or you're the first to admit there’s nothing green about your fingers, there’s a house plant out there to suit you.

If, however, you fall into the latter camp, there are plenty of steps you can take to ensure your new plant gets the care and attention it needs.

Before buying, you’ll need to consider where your new house plant will live, as the light and temperature conditions will inform which type of plant you choose. If you pick the bathroom, look for plants such as ferns that will thrive in humid conditions. But if you want one for a well-lit windowsill, ensure its leaves won’t scorch in direct sunlight and that it doesn’t mind a breeze.

All the services we’ve recommended below provide care instructions online, explaining how to keep your new plant healthy, and most send instructions with the plant too. For example, Patch, provides detailed care instructions on each plant it sells online, so you can factor it into your buying decision.

Here are the key things to consider when caring for house plants.

    • Watering schedules: It's important to avoid over- or under-watering your plant. For most house plants, it's best to wait until the top of the soil dries out before watering. If you’re particularly nervous about this, invest in a water dispenser that's left in the pot and will release water as and when the plant needs it.
    • Pot: For the most part, you should keep your plant in the pot it arrives in, rather than repotting it into something more decorative. Instead, place the nursery pot inside your planter so there’s adequate drainage when watering.
    • Pests: Stop them from infesting your plant by pinching off any bugs you see. If it's infested, then move them away from your other plants. Dabbing alcohol-soaked cotton buds on the insects should kill them, or you can, fill a plant mister with a little liquid soap and warm water and spray the plant. Make sure to gently wipe it off afterwards with a damp cloth.

How we test plant delivery services

We ordered five plants from each online delivery service and sent them to a panel of readers based across the UK. After a few weeks of caring for them, we asked the panel to fill in a detailed survey, covering everything from the delivery experience to packaging and care instructions, as well as the plant’s overall health.

Finally, we asked whether they’d consider using the service themselves and if they’d recommend it to friends and family.

We also sent one plant from each company to the Good Housekeeping Institute lab, to check how easy the plants were to order, the range of delivery options and filters, as well as the quality of guidance offered on care, and any toxicity to pets.

Plus, we included a cheeky spelling mistake on our gift cards to see if they were corrected before dispatch. Although there were some exceptions, generally they weren’t amended, so we’d recommend double-checking your message before clicking ‘add to basket’!

125 plants later, these are the house plant delivery services we’ll be relying on in 2025.

    Bloom & Wild

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Bloom & Wild

    Score: 89/100

    Our pick: Peacock plant, £35

Our best flower delivery service also proved impressive when it came to house plants, completing the double in our tests. Our plants arrived on time, well packaged and damage-free. The plant itself was also in top condition, and the damp soil was a testament to its freshness. It also had added moss over the top to keep it extra secure and moist.

Every plant comes in a stylish pot as default too, making them ideal for gifting. The website is easy to browse, as you can filter by occasion and size. There are also lots of luxury extras to choose from, from the more standard chocolates, candles or vases to books for something a little different.

    Arena Flowers

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Arena Flowers

    Score: 89/100

Our pick: Red Flamingo Flower Plant, £35

Arena earned its joint top place with its well-packaged, well-watered and hand-delivered plants, which arrived as promised on the planned day of delivery.

The plants look good, and the brand also does good through its charitable partnership. It started its reforestation initiative in 2019 and now works with a planting partner in Kenya to restore coastal mangroves, a CO2 absorbing tree, which also helps halt coastal erosion in the area. So, it’s a great choice if you’re conscious about the emissions of your purchase. The packaging – which is free of single-use-plastic and recyclable – protected our plants, and all our deliveries arrived on time.

Arena doesn't offer a huge selection of plants and there aren't many filters on the website, which doesn't provide the best user experience. That said, all our panellists loved their plant, gushing about how much of a statement it made in their homes.

If you're looking for a last-minute gift, Bunches offers affordable plants with next-day delivery. It’s also easy to add extra gifting options such as cookies and cakes, as well as personalised picture cards.

All the plants also came potted, and you can choose between a range of novelty and more standard designs. You can even search according to pot type, as well as by colour and plant species. On test, we found all our plants arrived on time, were well-protected, and met the expectations set by the listings online.

The plants came with clear care instructions and all our testers gave the service a thumbs up, saying they’d recommend it to others.

    FlowerBx

    Score: 87/100

Our pick: Blue wave fern, from £40

FlowerBx boasts a curated selection of plants alongside its stylish one-variety bouquets and while they cost more than most on our list, they’re worth it. All deliveries arrived on time and undamaged, while the plants themselves were healthy and flourished in our panellists’ homes.

We found the ordering experience straightforward too, with the online plant guide proving particularly helpful, as it details optimum humidity, light and watering conditions for each plant, as well as its toxicity. You can also choose the colour of your complementary plant pot so you can match it to your interiors.

    Our pick: Parlour Palm, £22.99

Appleyard sells both bouquets and plants, and with 30 plants listed, including some limited-edition options, you're sure to find your perfect bloom. When ours arrived, they were a great match to the online images and came with clear care instructions.

Note, there are some delivery restrictions for more remote parts of the UK and around special occasions, so it’s worth checking this to avoid disappointment. In London, however, the brand offers same day delivery. A unanimous panel-pleaser, Appleyard is a reliable pick.

International delivery is also available.

Our plants arrived on time, looking healthy and lush, and the soil was still damp – a testament to its freshness. Impressively, our (intentional) greeting card spelling mistake was corrected, and our panel liked the ceramic pots their plants came in.

With its range of bright potted blooms, opt for Interflora if you’re looking for a splash of colour. The brand works with a network of florists around the UK, so you’ll be supporting local businesses, too.

You can arrange specific delivery instructions, such as ‘knock loudly’ or ‘please be patient’, which is a nice touch. Orders arrived promptly on the expected delivery date, complete with a handwritten (correctly spelt!) gift note.

So that you can enjoy the plant for longer, flowers will arrive in bud, as explained on-site. But testers said they were freshly bloomed after a couple of days.

    Marks & Spencer Plants

    Our pick: Calathea Crocata, £30

From rubber plants to monsteras, this high street stalwart boasts a classic selection of house plants and offers free nominated-day or next-day delivery, which is ideal for gifting. You can even throw in a Colin the Caterpillar while you're at it!

Both our pot and plant were wrapped securely on arrival, and the accompanying care instructions were easy to follow. One qualm was that couriers didn’t always leave our deliveries in the safest of spots, but we found ordering straightforward and liked the seasonal planted flowers on offer.

    Patch Plants

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Patch Plants

    Score: 82/100

    Our pick: Tradescantia Nanouk, £12

Patch’s endearingly named plants – like Rapunzel the devil’s ivy – arrived at our panellists' homes safely and received glowing reviews. In fact, everyone said they’d use and recommend the company again.

The plants were accompanied by detailed care instructions, covering everything from feeding and watering to repotting – ideal for first-time plant parents.

The ordering process was also simple, thanks to detailed listings covering each plant’s preferences and thoughtful search filters for things like room, care criteria and pet toxicity. Plants arrive in a large box wrapped in protective packaging to ensure minimal damage. The sides are perforated so you can easily slide the plant out without hurting it. Plants arrive in a plastic pot, but there are multiple decorative ones you can add to your order too.

Note: Patch operates on a ‘just in time’ basis, sourcing its plants in line with demand, so next-day delivery isn’t always available, and there is a minimum £25 spend.

    Moonpig

    Score: 82/100

Our pick: Scented Jasmine Plant, £36

Our plants matched the online images almost perfectly but while Moonpig has the staples covered – from chrysanthemum to roses – the range is limited.

What it lacks in choice though, it more than makes up for in – unsurprisingly – the accompanying card selection, including the option to add a photo.

We found the website easy to navigate and liked how you could add multiple gifts and send them to different addresses in one order. Our plants arrived on time, were safely packaged and came with care instructions, too.

    Blossoming Gifts

    Score: 79/100

Our pick: Olive tree, from £46.99

Another reliable florist-meets-plant-nursery, Blossoming Gifts impressed with its house plant range. The plants were a lovely addition to our panellists' homes and arrived safely packaged. However, we’d have liked care instructions to be included with the plant, not just online.

There aren’t many filters on the website either, but each of our plants came with a pot. There are gift sets available too, which include wine and chocolates.

We particularly liked that you can select a day for delivery weeks in advance, so you can get ahead when it comes to gifting.

    Bloombox Club

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Bloombox Club

    Score: 76/100

Our pick: Pineapple Plant with Rosso Pot, £39.95

Like our runner-up, Patch, Bloombox Club specialises exclusively in plants, which is ideal if you’re looking for maximum choice.

The brand offers plant support for each purchase – so if yours starts to wilt, all won’t be lost as the customer service team will be on hand to answer any questions and offer advice. Unfortunately, one of our testers’ plants arrived damaged – their Pineapple plant was pineapple-less! But we were able to file a claim to the SavedBy company, which quickly offered a refund or replacement. It’s worth noting that there’s an additional £1.04 payment to access this service.

Delivery can take 3 to 5 working days, but we found the ordering process a breeze, with clear images, size information and filters that include ease of care and pet friendliness. But note that while the images feature pots, the plants just come in their growing pot as standard.

Despite that one mishap, most of our panel were delighted with the service, and all said they’d recommend it to others.

If you’re shopping on a budget, Bunches won’t let you down either. The plants arrived well-protected, potted, and came with clear care instructions.
