With this year's four-day Amazon Prime Day extravaganza in full swing, we've been busy scouring the site for deals on our top-rated mattresses, but most featured are own-brand options that don't come GHI Approved, so you can't be sure of the quality.

However, the good news is that plenty of competitor sites are running their own Prime Day sales, which means you can grab some of our top-rated for less right now. So, we're here to bring you all the best Prime Day mattress deals that aren't actually on Amazon!

They're all rigorously tested and approved by the Good Housekeeping Institute. As well as sending out new mattresses to testers to snuggle up with for a minimum of six weeks, we survey our Good Housekeeping reader panel to find out how the top mattress brands have performed over time. They all need to have owned their mattress for at least six months, and they give us detailed information on any changes in support levels or dips spotted as time goes on. So you know these are great deals in every sense.

Emma NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress - Double

THE DEAL: Save £271 on the Good Housekeeping Institute's highest scoring mattress in a box.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This scored 92/100 in our testing. As well as coming handily packaged in a box for easy delivery, it offers tailored support thanks to its combo of pocket springs and four layers of memory foam. It has a firmer feel so not for those who like a sink-in surface, but our testers found it comfy and cushioning. “It was instantly comfortable, and I've had such a good night’s sleep ever since,” one told us.

Origin mattress sale

Origin Hybrid Pro

UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
Hybrid Pro

THE DEAL: Save a huge £695 on another top-scorer with our panel, which takes a more sustainable approach.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This scored an impressive 90/100. As well as layers of foam and pocket springs, this mattress also has a layer of wool to help with temperature regulation and a cool Tencel cover. Our testers were big fans of the cooling additions and said it helped reduce sweating at night. This one also arrives in a box (although without handles, so open near your bed) and while some thought it wasn't firm enough, most found it very comfortable indeed. The brand donates all returned mattresses to the British Heart Foundation stores as part of a host of sustainability initiatives.

Dreams sale

Dreams Dream Team Gold Helston 4700 Pocket Memory Mattress

UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
Dream Team Gold Helston 4700 Pocket Memory Mattress

THE DEAL: £300 off our top pick for hot sleepers.

WHY WE LOVE IT: Another hybrid design that scored 90/100, this helped all our testers get a better night's sleep with one saying it was the most comfortable mattress they'd ever spent the night on! It's medium firm so everyone found it supportive and it's quiet at night. It's a deep and heavy mattress, so you may need new sheets and a helper to turn it but we think that's a deal we can make for better sleep.

Dreams Relyon Maeve Pillow Top Mattress

UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
Relyon Maeve Pillow Top Mattress

THE DEAL: £500 off a delightfully cushioned pillow-top mattress.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This combines sink-in layers of wool, bamboo and fibre on top of pocket springs, for a wonderfully cushioned, creak-free sleep. It's also very stable even with fidgeting partners. It's on the firm side, so side sleepers will approve and the pillow top adds an extra layer of indulgence. Some did find the pillow top dipped after a while but if you like that sink-in sensation, this is a great pick.

Bensons for Beds sale

Slumberland Flip 2 in 1 Mattress - Single

Flip 2 in 1 Mattress - Single

THE DEAL: £30 off this unique double-sided mattress, which has been developed for growing bodies.

WHY WE LOVE IT: This isn't a huge saving but this mattress (score: 88/100) is quite unique in the market – and perfect for any tweens in your home. It's a double-sided design with pocket springs on one side that are soft and supportive for growing bones and then a firmer side for when they're older. It's a 2-in-1 design that should suit for years and our young adult testers found it “just right”.

Why trust the Good Housekeeping Institute?

We test hundreds of sleep products every single year and we believe our mattress testing is the most thorough on the market. We ask our testing panel to sleep with each new mattress for a minimum of six weeks, before getting them to feed back in forensic detail on the delivery, unboxing, set up, comfort levels overnight, how noisy they were and whether they were easily disrupted by partners turning over, and overall feel and quality.

And we also go out to our Good Housekeeping reader panel to survey them on the best mattress brands and how they perform in their homes over time. Because when you're spending this much money on something, you want it to keep delivering great sleep month after month.

Our experts then analyse all the results in the lab, querying scores and going back for more detail to make sure we're bringing you the best recommendations. Kim Hawley, our sleep & wellness testing manager led this test and is a qualified personal trainer who has worked in the wellness industry for over 30 years, so knows what to look for in the best products for sleep. You can trust you're in very good hands!
