A perfectly arranged clothes drawer is one of life’s little pleasures, so I’m always looking for easy ways to tidy my own. The latest organisation tool on my radar? A clothes folding board.
This nifty laundry accessory, from storage brand Brabantia, is a flat plastic rectangular board that helps you fold clothes in four simple steps.
Instructions are printed on the front and back of the board, making it easy to remember the method, and it has curved edges to prevent fabrics from snagging.
It’s also compact enough to fit into a drawer, or you can use the hanging hook to store it in your wardrobe after use.
Admittedly, my folding skills aren’t great, so I jumped at the chance to give the board a try. Would it get my clothes – and drawers – in order? Scroll down to find out.
Brabantia clothes folding board: My honest review
To test, I used the board on a variety of clothing: from t-shirts, long-sleeved jumpers and shirts to skirts, shorts, dresses and scarves.
The folding board was straight-forward to use, with clear instructions steering me in the right direction. I simply laid the board on top of my chosen item, followed the steps and voila – a meticulously folded garment in seconds.
I found T-shirts were the easiest to fold, followed by short dresses and skirts. It took me a couple of tries to get the process right for long-sleeved items, like shirts and jumpers, but once I’d mastered the technique, each item averaged 10-20 seconds, meaning I got through 10 pieces of clothing in approximately three minutes. Not bad!
After experimenting with folding my clothes using the board, I tried folding free hand, using the same method. But my clothes just didn’t look as neat, so I reverted to my new laundry helper.
One note? When folding shirts, it's best to button them up first. I usually hang them up unbuttoned, so it added a little extra time to my usual routine – but this won't matter if you already do this.
Brabantia Clothes folding board: The verdict
I love this folding board! Initially, I wasn’t sure how often I’d use it on laundry day once I’d learnt the folding method, but I’ve come to realise how handy it is.
It has made folding clothes significantly faster and easier, saving me time and helping to leave my drawers looking immaculate. I now use it on clothing I would typically hang up, meaning my wardrobe has a little extra space to play with.
Plus, at under £20, it is an affordable price for a reusable product, and should last for years to come.
