The evenings may be drawing in and the weather distinctly autumnal but not everyone reaches instinctively for a full-bodied bottle of red or even enjoys them. So we asked the experts at Wotwine? to find some great value white wines.

First up is a great buy from Northern Italy, in the traditional “Classico” heartland of Soave. “Superiore” on the label tells you more about how it is made and matured than whether it is really any good but flavour wise this definitely grabbed the attention of the Wotwine? tasting team.

Soave Classico Superiore 2017

Stockist: Aldi

Price: £4.99

The Wotwine? panel thinks this is worth: £7.50

Nicely made wine with citrusy character, good weight and length.

Sancerre La Cote Blanche Nicolas Carlin 2017

Sancerre is very fashionable but sometimes the pricing can get rather ahead of what is in the bottle. This is an exception, exuding quality yet attractively priced. It’s perfect with shellfish or simple grilled fish.
