The best SPF moisturisers to keep skin bouncy as it ages
‘My skin is in the best condition ever after using this!’

We love a multi-tasking skincare product. They save us time, money and space in our holiday carry-ons.
However, for years, we’ve been telling you that a combined moisturiser and SPF isn’t as effective as a standalone SPF created specifically for the job. Well, the good news is that the technology has been advancing, and brands are attempting to create the perfect one-stop-shop cream that not only instantly hydrates, but prevents sun damage and slows down skin ageing, too.
Enter the best SPF moisturisers, which we’ve been busy testing in the Good Housekeeping Institute lab. They're made for those mornings when you don’t have time for your full routine, you’re running out the door on the school run after a missed alarm, or you’re rushing to an appointment you forgot to put in your calendar – if you grab one product to prepare your skin for the day, make it one of our experts’ top-rated formulas.
That said, if you’re actively sunbathing or are sat in the sun’s rays on holiday, you will still need a dedicated sunscreen.
How we test SPF moisturisers
Note, we don’t test the sun protection factor of these products – we don’t want to send people out into the midday sun to see if their skin burns or not when exposed to UV. The SPF claims of the products on our list have all been independently verified by third party bodies, which is why the brands are able to include them on their packaging.
Instead, our experts assess each product's hydrating and pro-ageing properties in the Good Housekeeping Institute beauty lab. To do this, they measure the hydration of testers' skin immediately after application and again after a four-hour period, to determine how effective the formulas are at locking in moisture. Our beauty experts also analyse the ingredients and assess the packaging and feel of the products.
We also send each moisturiser out to a panel of testers who feed back on how they feel, how long the hydrating effects last, and whether they've seen any improvement in the texture and tone of their skin. You'll find our winners marked with the GHI Approved logo below.
We've also included some editors' picks – newer releases that we haven't had the chance to test in the lab yet, but have been used on repeat and loved by our beauty editors.
These are the hottest SPF moisturisers on the market right now.
