A kettle is a household staple that sees plenty of use, making it one of those items where it's worth investing in the best. The GHI has been testing plenty of kettles – and the Kenwood Mesmerine has taken the top spot with a near-perfect score of 92/100. Best of all? It's just £49.99!
This kettle impressed testers with its chic, sturdy design and good performance. The outside stayed cool, reaching just 35C when freshly boiled, and it has all the features you’d expect, including an anti-limescale filter and an auto-shut off when it boils dry.
It boiled enough water for a cup of tea in just over 40 seconds (the team barely had time to get a mug out of the cupboard before it was done!), making it the fastest kettle in the team's round-up. When full, it took just over three minutes, which is also pretty good. It poured cleanly and accurately, so no spilling boiling water on your surfaces here.
On the other hand, it's quite loud and a little heavy – although this does speak to having a good build quality. It’s also worth noting that the water level gauge is inside the kettle, making it tricky to see how much is in there.
Our speediest, highest-scoring kettle for just under £50? This one is definitely worth the investment. We've found red and purple options on Amazon, which you can pick up here.
