Well, the weather has turned again, but we're hoping the sunny days will grace our British shores again soon – especially as, for a lot of us, our holidays are still cancelled this year. Saying that, there are some drawbacks to a heatwave — like trying to get to sleep, or stopping your makeup from sliding off your face.
That means that, when the hot weather (finally) rolls around, we have to reach for our most hardworking foundations — and one of our favourite longwear options is currently 50% off on Amazon, bringing the price down to just over £6 as part of its Prime Day sale. Yes, we know the sun's gone back in but, still, now is the time to stock up.
Revlon Colorstay is a cult favourite for a reason: it really works. It comes in two formulations, for dry/normal or combination/oily skin, has SPF 15 (another reason it’s a good choice for when the sun’s out) and it comes in an impressive range of 41 shades.
On test, it scored a high 85/100, with testers praising its natural look and good coverage of blemishes and redness. It has a medium coverage initially which is buildable to full, if you prefer.
From personal experience (I have super-oily skin) I know that if I have an event or a long day planned, this is a go-to foundation that will last. It claims to have a 24-hour staying power and, while I’ve never left it on that long, I know it will last well from the morning until washing my face in the evening, standing up to humidity, heat and oil well. A good choice for a heatwave, then.
On the less positive side, some testers found it a little patchy, and it dries quickly so blending time is quite limited. It’s best to work in small sections of your face to get the best from this formula. Some panellists also found it to settle into fine lines throughout the day, so you might want to pair it with a primer if you want to look really flawless.
Overall though, with such a good discount, we’re definitely keeping one of these handy in our makeup bag through the rest of the summer.
