Becoming a parent can be a wonderful experience, but it can also be very isolating, particularly for new mums.

That’s why one entrepreneur has decided to launch a new app dubbed ‘Tinder for mums’, which aims to help mothers make new friends.

Peanut has a similar format to the dating app Tinder, with mothers uploading profiles and then ‘swiping’ to register their interest in each other and start chatting.

The platform uses machine learning to work out what mums have in common and find out what their priorities are when it comes to making a match.

Co-founder Michelle Kennedy said she decided to launch the app after being disappointed by the friendship apps available when she became a mum.

‘I had been working in tech for a long time, I felt I had this level of expectation about the type of product I could use,’ she told the BBC.

The app has currently been launched in New York and London, where it is hoped it will bring new mums together for support and friendship.
