Not since Broadchurch have we been so excited for the return of a TV drama, and now we have our first peek of Poldark series 2.

The BBC drama, based on the novels of Winston Graham, became a huge hit last year, so there's high anticipation for the return of Aidan Turner’s romantic hero in September – although by the looks of things in the first trailer, all is not well.

What to read next

Ross Poldark appears chained and shackled, with Turner’s voiceover: ‘I fought for our liberty. For our hopes, for our dreams. And I'll keep on fighting, whatever the cost.’

Spanning the third and fourth books in the Poldark series, this season is bound to feature plenty of sorrow, as Ross deals with the emotional consequences of his daughter’s death from diphtheria.

A controversial rape scene from the book has been axed, however, keeping Poldark’s reputation as a hero intact.
