Saturday Kitchen viewers were horrified to see a whole octopus being cooked live on air.

Chef Nieves Barragan was following her recipe for Gallacian octopus, when she had to tenderise the animal by dipping it in boiling water; a process also known as ‘scaring’.

Despite presenter Matt Tebbutt reassuring viewers that the octopus was not alive, some fans were not impressed with the segment and voiced their disgust…

Among the horrified voices, many fans also took to Twitter to complain that nobody would even cook octopus at home and that the show was becoming out of touch.

Others noted that the large octopus was only used for its tentacles - which seems a bit of a waste.
