You don’t need to be a teacher to appreciate the craziness of this American female teacher’s contract from 1923. Hurrah for the progress in gender equality at work, is all we can say!
The image of the contract was posted on social sharing site Reddit over the weekend, and while the authenticity of the document is yet to be determined, it has sent people into a frenzy over the sexist terms.
The contract lists marriage, smoking and drinking beer, wine or whiskey as sackable offences, while other terms include wearing at least two petticoats and no loitering in ‘downtown ice-cream stores’.
