Last October, whilst under intense media scrutiny, Meghan Markle flew to Ottawa to be photographed by Vanity Fair.

While this is nothing out of the ordinary for a Hollywood celebrity, this time around, the actress was on location to take part in the One Young World summit, where she was acknowledged for her humanitarian work.

Markle, who is a Counsellor on the board, took to her blog to explain her involvement in the organisation and why it was a resounding ‘yes’ when she was asked to take part in the summit:

'One Young World invites young adults from all over the world who are actively working to transform the socio-political landscape by being the greater good,' she wrote. 'They are delegates who are speaking out against human rights violations, environmental crises, gender equality issues, discrimination and injustice. They are the change.'

When the summit finished, Markle was photographed alongside the likes of actress Emma Watson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, poet Fatima Bhutto, singer Cher, President of Ireland Mary Robinson and women's rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul – basically all the young people who are trying to change the world for the better, Markle included. Afterwards, Markle uploaded some behind-the-scenes snaps from the day on Instagram:

The Suits actress has made no secret of the fact that she’ll continue to use her high profile to champion human rights, telling the Telegraph UK last year, 'While my life shifts from refugee camps to red carpets, I choose them both because these worlds can, in fact, co-exist. And, for me, they must.'
