It was officially crowned the UK’s favourite Christmas film last week, and we thought we knew everything there was to know about Love Actually – but now a fan theory about two of the characters has made us question EVERYTHING…
As The Sun reported this weekend, a superfan of the festive ensemble film has shared a theory about one of the most emotional storylines, and it has completely blown our minds.
While re-watching Love Actually for the thousandth time, Twitter user @thisjenlewis has come up with the theory that Liam Neeson's character, Daniel, might actually be in love with his good pal Karen (played by Emma Thompson).
Her evidence? As the movie comes to an end and the grieving widower meets a beautiful mum at his stepson’s school (played by supermodel Claudia Schiffer, no less), Daniel accidentally calls his new crush Karen, a Freudian slip that could hint at his REAL feelings for his old friend.

How could we have missed this?
As to whether the actors themselves picked up on this sneaky secret storyline in the script, it would seem not… When asked about the theory in a recent interview, Liam Neeson not only had no idea what everyone was going on about, but was also confused enough to think that Emma Thompson’s character was his sister in the movie. ‘She’s my sister. That is sick. I can’t believe you said that. She’s my sister!’ he told Metro.co.uk.
Erm, no Liam!
She’s NOT your sister, and now we’re convinced that your character was secretly in love with her all along!
Hands up who will be re-watching Love Actually pronto to review the evidence.
