The Strictly Come Dancing underdog has revealed that he's desperate to hit the town with the younger celebrities like Daisy Lowe and Laura Whitmore but they keep leaving him out.

We're not quite sure why because we can imagine nothing better than seeing Ed Balls on a nightclub dancefloor, but he revealed on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show that they all just slip out of Strictly without him.

'You don't finish [filming] until 11 o'clock at night, and luckily there's a tent with a bar so you can finally chill out,' he told host Nick Grimshaw.

'The difference is that the contestants my age then go home and go to bed, and the young celebrities go down to Camden or Central London and I think go through to the morning.

'Really sadly, they've not invited me. I don't know what it is. I mean, there's like this awkward moment about midnight and people sort of slip out and I sort of stand there and nobody really says goodbye because they all want to leave without people noticing. It's really tragic.'

What's even worse is that the youngsters apparently 'keep promising' to take Ed out but have not yet 'sealed the deal.'

'Maybe tomorrow night's the night?' he said hopefully. 'I wouldn't mind doing it once. I'm going to talk to them. Stop excluding me!'

Of course, Grimmy knows where it's at because - after all - he's seen Ed's astonishing moves in the Strictly ballroom, so he offered to take him out on the beers.

'Honest?' Ed replied. 'Proper solid house. Big techno bass. Boom boom boom boom. That's what I want. Can we wear funny clothes? I'm not wearing plastic. Just to be clear, there's limits.'

Hmm, maybe Nick is regretting his offer now - though Ed proved that he's a good sport, playing a game of snog, marry, avoid with Strictly judges Craig Revel Horwood, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli.

'I would definitely snog Craig, because I have before and it was good,' he revealed. 'We were actually at a TeachFirst awards... and he kissed me. I'm not sure how it happened'

'Obviously I'd marry Len because he's such a solid dependable wise guy. I could go off clubbing with Daisy Lowe and come back in the morning and Len would be still asleep and say, 'Have you made the tea?' and then he wouldn't even know you'd been out.'

'But I can't avoid Bruno! Even if you tried, he'd still be there.'

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow (October 22) at 6.35pm on BBC One.
