Davina McCall has opened up about how past hardships have made her a resilient person able to deal with anything life throws at her.
Speaking in the June issue of Red, Davina attributed her resilient nature to the fact she had to deal with some very difficult situations early in her life, including her mother walking out of her life when she was a toddler, and a battle with addiction.
“If you haven’t been through anything difficult, it will hit you like a train and you won’t know what to do because you’ve never been given the tools to deal with it,” she said,
Referring to her ‘colourful’ childhood in which her mother left her in the care of her grandparents when she was just three, Davina added:
“I’m not a victim in any way, but it was tricky. I think that’s made me a resilient person, but also, if somebody’s going through something, I’ll know what that feels like.”
The mum of three added that she feels able to deal with anything that’s thrown at her now.

“When I think of the drugs and the alcohol, and my sister dying, and knowing I got through all that, all of those things make you think: ‘Throw anything at me - I’ll be OK’".
Elsewhere in the interview, Davina spoke about being a role model for her three children, Holly, Tilly and Chester.
The This Time Next Year presenter acknowledged that she 'missed out' on parts of her children's younger years due to work commitments but revealed they hugely admire her work ethic.
"Holly [16] always says 'I just admire that you've done so much with us and with work. I know it's been hard sometimes, and you've been a great mum'", Davina said.
The mum of three also added that she won't comment on her recent separation with her husband of 17 years, Matthew Robertson, for the sake of her children.
'They are my priority and they always will be," she said.
