Last night saw the broadcast of the late Carrie Fisher’s final appearance in Channel 4 sitcom Catastrophe, and viewers were quick to take to social media to share their emotions.

In the programme, starring its writers Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney, Fisher played Mia, the often insensitive but totally hilarious mother of Delaney’s character.

The Star Wars actress tragically died in December last year, shortly after wrapping filming on Catastrophe, so naturally her final appearance in the show was extremely poignant.

The episode saw Fisher attending the funeral of Sharon’s father and comforting his widow in her own matter of fact way. Viewers were quick to point out the plot of the episode only added to the poignancy of Fisher’s last portrayal of Mia.

The episode marked the end of Catastrophe series three. As it finished on a seriously dramatic cliffhanger, we reckon we'll be seeing the show back soon; but much like the people of Twitter, we're very saddened Carrie Fisher won't be lending her incredible talent to it in the future.
