Following on from the ‘Mumbods’ movement, a new project is encouraging women to love their post-baby bodies.
Called The Honest Body Project, it’s a series of beautifully candid black and white pictures of women in their underwear, posing with their children.
Photographer Natalie McCain got the idea after a friend of hers struggled with self-esteem and body issues, and noticed this was common in young girls today.
As part of the project, she interviewed 25 women about their bodies and how they coped with motherhood and their changing shapes.
In an interview with the Huffington Post, Natalie said, ‘The portraits show their joy, their beauty, their imperfections, and their love for their children. Paired with their stories, it paints a beautiful, honest picture of motherhood.’
With each image comes a heartfelt story of motherhood, love and sometimes even loss. Including this one:
‘My body may not be aesthetically pleasing but my soft tummy and breasts have been a place of comfort and consolation to my crying children more times than I can count and my stretchmarks are my stripes that signify that I am a momma, first and always, and I think that is beautiful.’
