Last night saw the conclusion of BBC 2 series Paula, a thriller about a chemistry teacher (Paula, played by Denise Gough) whose life is turned upside down after a one night stand with handyman James (Victoria's Tom Hughes.)

The Dublin-set series became increasingly dark and complex as it progressed, and it soon became clear to viewers that the key characters were battling with a lot of personal demons.

In last night’s finale, all of the suspense and drama came to a head, and the reaction from viewers was, shall we say, mixed...

Some people seemed to enjoy the 'gripping', if a little complicated, ending.

However others appeared to be less than impressed, likening Paula to The Replacement – another BBC series which left viewers confused by the final episode when it aired earlier in the year.



One thing many people could agree on, though, was that Denise Gough and Tom Hughes were brilliant as two of the show's most central characters.
