The American trend of hosting a baby shower is now in full swing here in the UK. Baby shower invites, baby shower gifts and baby shower themes are all the rage.
But one particular baby shower gift has caught our eye – for all the wrong reasons.
At first glance, it’s very sweet – a card with a sleeping baby on the front and a touching message about parenting.
But, open the card, and the person on the receiving end is in for a nasty surprise.
The inside of the card reads ‘a gift that keeps on giving’ but we certainly wouldn’t call what happens next a ‘gift’.
When you press the button inside the card, the sound of a crying baby plays until the battery on the card dies – around THREE HOURS.
We can understand that this might be good preparation for the soon-to-be-mum but, when there isn’t the adoring face of your own flesh and blood staring back at you, this is certainly learning the hard way.
The makers of the card, Travis and Nick Perterson of Joker Greetings, describe it as the ‘perfect way to welcome soon-to-be parents to the joys of parenthood with the soothing sounds of incessant crying’. After receiving funding through Kickstarter, the card costs £7.50 and will be available to preorder from March.
Even so, we think we’ll stick to taking wet wipes, babygrows and toys to the next baby shower we’re invited to. Will you?
