Apple Tree Yard has been one of the stand out drama series of 2017 so far, depicting one woman’s struggle for justice in the wake of being raped – and showing how far she was willing to go to get the revenge she wanted.
Now, it’s been announced Amanda Coe, the writer who brought us that drama, is penning another for the BBC – this time following the ‘human story’ behind the Profumo scandal of the 1960s.
The Trial of Christine Keeler ‘takes a fresh look at one of the most infamous British stories - the chain of events in the 1960s which came to be known as the Profumo affair,’ according to the BBC.

At 19-years-old, Christine Keeler was revealed to be having an affair with the Minister for War John Profumo as well as a Soviet naval attaché. The scandal rocked the British establishment with a wave of consequences following.

Amanda Coe said of the series: ‘I’m excited to have the opportunity to bring a fresh lens to a story that has become a powerful fable of our national identity.
‘The astonishing story of Christine Keeler and the so-called Profumo affair is the Salem Witch Trial meets OJ Simpson - a perfect storm of gender, class, race and power that resonates into the world we’re living in today.’
We think it sounds like a must-watch. Sadly, we’ve got a little while to wait, though – filming for the six-part series begins in 2018.
