Anyone who's been on a night out or to a party this summer can't have escaped the joy that is 'Despacito' from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee.

Now, it has officially become the most streamed song of all time, just six months after it was released.

The song and accompanying remix featuring Justin Bieber, have been played a whopping 4.6 billion times across leading streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. The hit single has overtaken Justin Bieber’s 'Sorry', which previously held the title.

‘Despacito’ (which means ‘slowly’) has broken other records as well. It is the first time Spanish song to reach No.1 on Billboard Radio Songs Chart and No.1 on Spotify’s Global 50 Chart.

‘What's happened with this song is just insane,’ singer Fonsi told the BBC. ‘I don't want to use the word accident because I was trying to write a hit, but I didn't plan for it to cross over.’

However, the Puerto Rican star is no stranger to chart success. He has had three of his previous albums on top of the US Latin chart, as well as six singles.

‘Despacito’ was first released in January 2017 in Latin America, becoming very popular in the region, but it really took off in English-speaking countries when the world’s biggest popstar Justin Bieber heard the song in a nightclub and asked to add a verse.

The version of the single with Bieber is already the third most played video in YouTube, with 2.660 billion views, below ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘See you Again’.
