The Royal Mint's brand new Beatrix Potter 50p coins have caused quite a stir, so much so that there's now a queue to access the website due to the 'very high volume of traffic'.

To be fair, we're not surprised because the coloured coins are completely adorable! Joining Peter Rabbit on special 50ps, which first appeared last year to mark the 150th anniversary of Potter's birth, will be three further characters from the famed children's author's books: Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten and Jeremy Fisher.

Each one of the coloured designs has been created to emulate the distinctive, hand-painted style of Potter's original illustrations, the Telegraph reports.

The designs are the handiwork of Emma Noble, who has previously designed special pieces in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

Anne Jessopp, of The Royal Mint, said: 'While we always knew that the Beatrix Potter characters would be a huge hit, the enormous popularity of the 2016 set exceeded everyone's expectations.

'The coins sold out almost instantly as people raced to collect a complete set of the four friends. We're delighted to be able to present another group of her exquisite characters, giving them a new lease of life on our specially-designed coloured commemorative coins.'

We'd better get in the queue if we want a shot of finding these cute coins in our purse, then!

All four of the coins will be in circulation later this year.
