A mother’s dying wish for her two sons to start a new life with her sister in America may be in jeopardy due to the staggering costs involved.
Jo Lynch died tragically of cancer last July, aged just 29. She leaves behind two sons: nine-year-old Kallum, and Jack, aged seven.
Heartbreakingly, Jo’s mother, the boys’ grandmother, and her sister have also passed away from cancer. Jo’s surviving sister Sam Wells lives in California, but the huge costs involved in her adopting the boys – around £25,000 – may mean they have to go into care in the UK instead.

Currently, Jack and Kallum are living with their grandfather, Patrick Lynch, in Great Yarmouth. As well as having to deal with the loss of his wife and two daughters, Patrick has also had a number of serious health problems, and is worried the boys will have to go into care should his condition deteriorate.

‘If I was younger they could stay with me and I could adopt them,’ he told the Great Yarmouth Mercury. ‘But I am nearly 64 and have had open heart surgery and three strokes – something has to be put in place.’
The inherited cancer that sadly killed his mother has also struck Kallum before. He was diagnosed at 18-months-old, spent nine months in intensive care and now only has one lung. He told ITV ‘My auntie promised my mum to look after us until we could look after ourselves.’

Mr Lynch says that his daughter in the US, who has three children of her own, is ‘devastated’ at the prospect that the boys’ move might not happen, and it considering selling her house.
