According to new research, we’re all desperately out of step with the classic wedding anniversary traditions. 55% of us aren’t familiar with traditional anniversary milestones like silver, ruby, gold, etc (who knew that the ninth wedding anniversary carried a fun “willow” theme?), and only 10% of us exchange traditional anniversary gifts.
The survey by One4all sounds pretty familiar, with lots of us coming up with our own personal traditions that might be even more romantic than the official ones.
Here, Reddit users share what makes their milestones so special - whether it's a simple card or going on a minibreak.
1. 'We send each other cards from the cat, as well as each other. We are kind of goofy like that.
2. 'Our first date was to a corn maze, and now we go every year to the same corn maze when we get the chance. This year my parents are tagging along because they'll be in town to visit this year when we planned to go.'
3. 'We always go somewhere for the weekend, and while we are there, we bring something small and relatively inexpensive back to remember the occasion, usually something for the house or the yard [...] Great memories attached.'
4. 'We had cupcakes instead of regular cake at our wedding, so each year on our anniversary we go back to the bakery we got them from and get cupcakes to share. Our first kid is due right around our next anniversary, so our tradition might be changing soon. We'll see!'
5. 'For our 2 years together we both got each other scratch cards without knowing until we traded gifts. I thought it was hilarious we both had the same idea. We bought eachother scratchcards for our 3rd year together so I guess that's it now haha.'
6. 'For our anniversary we always eat at the same home owned steak house. It's actually where we go for all our special occasions. It's really fun to have 'our place' for special occasions- especially anniversaries.'
