In one of the sweetest storis we've heard for a while, a holidaymaker in Crete adopted a stray dog who defended her while she was being harrassed by two men on a beach.

25-year-old Georgia Bradley was approached by the men, who became aggressive after she refused their offer of a drink on a remote stretch of beach, while her boyfriend was in a cafe nearby.

When one of them grabbed her by the arm, a scruffy black dog ran to her rescue and barked at the men. The cute stray stayed by her side until they left. Georgia, from Calstock in Cornwall said of the pooch, who she named Pepper, ‘She saved me. She must have noticed something was wrong. When I went back to the apartment she followed me and finally let us stroke her. We had an instant bond.’

The couple were flying home the next day but, as the dog wouldn't leave the outside of their apartment, Georgia tried to find it a home. Unfortuntely, she was turned away by an animal shelter and a local vet. ‘When we left to go to the airport, we looked back and Pepper was running after the car. It was heartbreaking,’ she said.

However, once the pair were back in the UK, it wasn't the end... ‘When I got home I couldn’t stop thinking about her so I took the soonest flight back out that I could, which was two weeks later,’ Georgia explains and, luckily, Pepper was still there on the same stretch of beach.

After having the dog confirmed as a stray, she paid for vet treatment, got her a pet passport and, after 21 days in quarantine, Georgia was able to bring Pepper back to Cornwall with her.

If that wasn't enough of a happy ending, Pepper gave birth to a litter of six puppies just one week after settling in to her new home.
