When it comes to weddings, sunny, shower-free weather is probably one of the only things you can’t plan ahead for, with Mother Nature being well known for her unpredictable ways.

However, one travel company is now offering the ‘perfect day’ package which, for a mere (!) £100,000, includes weather control to guarantee blues skies on your big day.

This may sounds absurd, but ‘cloud bursting’, or ‘cloud seeding’, which was developed in the 1940s by US chemist Vincent Schaefer, is actually a practice that is used around the world as a way to prevent fog at airports and even to boost snowfall at ski resorts. Oh, and ti was reportedly used to keep crowds dry during a Paul McCartney gig in 2003!

This form of weather modification works by light aircraft firing rockets filled with iodide crystals into small or medium-sized rain clouds (the process isn’t effective on large clouds), with the super-cooled particles freezing the water droplets, which then expand in size and fall out of the cloud (the cloud takes 24 hours to burst) as rain or snow - basically a quick-fire way of releasing the rain from the cloud in a controlled manner.

Whilst some have questioned this technique, believing that it’s bad for the environment, luxury travel company Oliver’s Travels state that there ‘is no evidence that suggests cloud seeding creates any significant negative environmental impacts on the environment.’

So, all you need now to guarantee blue skies is a spare £100,000!
