When Bubbles the dachshund came into her owners’ lives, Trevor Byers and Elissa Smoakshe realised that she would need extra love and care, as had been born without front legs.

Writing on their Facebook page, which is dedicated to Bubbles, Trevor wrote, ‘We knew right away our little family has just grown by one because no way were we letting this special girl go.’

Concerned about the quality of life their little two-legged pup would have, Trevor and Elissa set out to find a wheelchair for Bubbles. But after a few months and no luck, they decided to purchase their very own 3D printer to create wheels for her.

Trevor, who conveniently works as a mechanic, said, ‘Many many more failed attempts later, I have come up with a design that is perfect for my Bubbles.’

The pink custom-made wheels have been designed to be lightweight and stable, so that the pup doesn’t put too much weight on her back.

‘She [Bubbles] gets around in her cart better than any other small dog I have seen missing their front legs. Up and down hills and running through thick grass taller than her, nothing slows her down.’

To ensure that all dogs born with disabilities are able to live a full and happy life, Trevor and Elissa make and donate 3D-printed wheelchairs to show they ‘should not be given up on’. To find out more, check out their Facebook page and watch Bubble’s enjoy her new wheels.
