1. Keeping things in those ‘safe places’. As annoying as it might have beeen when our parents said ‘make sure you keep it in a safe place’, we soon understand its importance when we find our passport in between a magazine and our utility bill under the sofa.

2. Not having to pay council tax – why did no one prepare us for this?

3. Having a garden - especially if we move from the country to the city, we suddenly realise how sacred a garden is. Even a few paving slabs behind our new city home makes us the envy of all our flat-renting friends.

5. Sundays – family roasts and walks with the dog.

10. Being able to fill our parents in on our daily news whenever we feel like it instead of the designated Wednesday night and Sunday night phone calls.

11. Having an alcohol cupboard. (Guilty!)

12. And of course, we miss our parents – the ones who always want to hear about our day, make sure we are fed and watered and give us a hug just because.
