The Royal Family shared an official message for the GB Paralympic team this weekend, as they prepare to compete at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
The Earl of Wessex, the Queen’s youngest son, delivered a speech wishing every success to the athletes, as he is an official royal patron of the Paralympic team.
A video of the address was shared on the official Royal Family social media accounts, in which he wished the team, “the very best of luck.”
He said, "We want you to go out there and to achieve your best. Make us proud and inspire the next generation of athletes with a disability."
While Prince Edward acknowledged that the “lack of any spectators” would be “surreal,” he said that competitors “can be sure [their] family, friends and supporters are there in spirit, following it all on the screen and expending plenty of energy and frustration shout at it.”
He added, “we all send you massive congratulations on being selected,” and said that, “whatever happens, I hope you have a brilliant experience in Japan.”
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games kicks off 24 August with coverage from Channel 4, including highlights shows, live streams, The Last Leg and TV specials.
The Paralympics follows the recently concluded Olympic Games in Tokyo. Princess Anne expressed her own congratulations for the athletes’ performance during this year’s Olympic performance, as the Royal patron for Team GB.
The address was shared to the official Royal Family Instagram as the games closed.
