The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge surprised NHS workers with a heartwarming message to staff and all those battling coronavirus on the frontline.

Taking to their Instagram channel Kensington Palace, Prince William and Kate posted a montage clip of health workers from Queen's Hospital Burton listening to a phone call from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“We’d just like to say from the two of us how proud we are of all of you and how amazingly you are all doing under extreme circumstances,” Prince William is heard saying.

“I know all of you see this as your job and that you get on with it, but this is a different level and you are doing an incredible job.”

He went on to express how grateful both the royal family as well the whole of the UK is for their tireless efforts to help those affected by the virus.

The dad-of-three added: “The whole country is proud of you, not just us, we really mean that. So thank you for everything you’re doing and all the hours you are putting in.”

Fans of the royals took to the comments to praise the effort.

One fan wrote: “The phone call from Prince William was extremely appreciated by the healthcare workers I am sure. Stay safe!”
