Meghan Markle is many things; mother, Duchess, activist, wife, and (former) actress being just a few. But during her royal tour of Africa, the royal revealed another secret talent.
On Monday (30 September), the Duchess of Sussex visited Victoria Yards, a social enterprise that gives a platform to local craftspeople, as well as start-ups and charities. While visiting the initiative, Meghan bought three notebooks from Young Bucks, an organisation that sits within Victoria Yards and uses recycled items to bind their own books.
Speaking after she'd left, Simon Sizwe Mayson, co-director of Maker’s Valley which helped establish the initiative, revealed that Meghan shared a former hobby and skill with them; bookmaking.
"She bought these three little notebooks and also mentioned that she used to do workshops in bookbinding herself. She used to coach bookbinding," Simon said.
A royal aide later confirmed that Meghan did indeed take bookbinding classes, but didn't share any further details about when, where, or for how long.
Considering we know the Duchess is a keen calligrapher (have you seen her snazzy signatures when she publicly signs things?!), it's not surprising she also has a passion for bookmaking. Just think of all the handmade books she could personalise for baby Archie...
Baby Archie made his one and only appearance during the tour on day three, when the four-month-old was brought along to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu. After being away from home for 10 days, we bet the baby royal is looking forward to getting back home and to normality with his cot and his favourite toys.
