On Tuesday (19 March), the Queen and Kate Middleton stopped by King's College London for their first-ever dual engagement outside of Buckingham Palace – and they arrived in an unexpectedly sweet way...

The Queen and her granddaughter-in-law drove in the same car, and when royal fans peeked in, they could see the pair sharing the same blue blanket across their laps. It was a particularly poignant show of unity given that, while the Queen and Kate have appeared together countless times, they've rarely done so without other members of the royal family.

Kate usually forgoes a hat during events such as this, but on this occasion she completed her outfit with one of her favorite headpieces. As the Daily Mail pointed out, this is likely a sign of respect for the Queen.

It certainly paired well with the rest of Kate's look: a gray Catherine Walker coat, Gianvito Rossi heels, and a Mulberry clutch.

For her part, the Queen went her typical monochrome route, matching a pink Stewart Parvin coat with a similarly-colored Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat. A pearl necklace and a rose-colored brooch finished off the monarch's outfit.
