Jim Carter, known as Downton Abbey’s much-loved butler, was awarded an OBE by Prince Charles for his services to drama.

The actor joins fellow OBE recipients, including JK Rowling, Victoria and David Beckham, Idris Elba and Keira Knightley. Those awarded an OBE have “a major role in any activity, including people whose work has made them known nationally in their chosen area,” according to the government website.

Although he's best-known for his role in Downton Abbey, Carter also featured in Shakespeare In Love. My Week With Marilyn and The Golden Compass. He was accompanied by his wife, Imelda Staunton, who was previously awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) three years ago.

She will appear in the upcoming Downton Abbey film, alongside her husband. The movie will be released on 13 September, 2019, in the UK and on 20 September in the US.
