JLS star Aston Merrygold was infamously voted out way too early on the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing, but last night's (December 25) Christmas Special saw him finally be crowned the winner.

As he and partner Janette Manrara were handed the Silver Star trophy, he said: "Honestly, just thank you. I’ve had the best, best time. From the series to the Christmas special, even to just meeting new friends.

"The judges, you guys, thank you so much for your comments. Everyone in here, just thank you, and this woman right here."

So, the BBC and Strictly gave us one extra present this Christmas Day... justice for Aston and Janette!

The duo danced a Jive to 'That's What Christmas Means to Me' (the CeeLo Green version) and scored a full 40.

That score was matched by Love Island host Caroline Flack and partner Gorka Marquez, who performed a Charleston to 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' (a mash-up of the Mariah Carey and Bing Crosby versions).

Elsewhere tonight, EastEnders star Jake Wood and Luba Mushtuk performed a Cha Cha to Take That's festive favourite 'Could It Be Magic' and scored 39, while newsreader Anita Rani and Neil Jones scored 35 for their Foxtrot to 'Winter Wonderland' (Michael Bublé version).

Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan and Nadiya Bychkova scored 30 for their Viennese Waltz performance of 'Please Come Home for Christmas' (Kelly Clarkson version).

Oh yes, and Ann Widdecombe and Anton Du Beke performed an American Smooth to 'Sisters' by Rosemary Clooney and scored 22. So, sorry if you placed a bet on them winning.

Strictly Come Dancing aired on BBC One.
