Not only can parking be expensive when you’re taking the car on a city break but it can also be a real chore. Finding a nearby spot and lugging your cases along the street isn’t much fun, especially when the weather is inclement. So it pays to stay somewhere that can offer valet services, on-site spaces, or even discounts to secure local lots.

We’ve rounded up some of the loveliest Edinburgh hotels with parking to make it easier for you to choose where to stay. A couple of them, like Norton House Hotel & Spa and Prestonfield House are slightly out of the city centre meaning they have more space to offer free on-site facilities. Others, like Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian and Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, offer on-site parking at a daily rate. Sometimes this can be cheaper than booking one of the nearby branded city car parks, and you don’t need to travel too far to get your belongings.

See below for our selection of the best hotels for parking in Edinburgh.

1

Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian

The Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian is a great choice if you’re looking to combine sightseeing with seriously classy lodgings. Tartan-trousered doormen greet you at the entrance, many of the rooms come with castle views, and spaces are decked out in acres of marble.

There’s a small pool and spa, and a fitness centre, but perhaps where the hotel really shines is its glamorous bar and restaurants ─ one of which is Peacock Alley, occupying the old ticket hall. This is the spot for cocktails and afternoon tea with a side of people-watching. If whiskey is your thing, the Caley Bar has over 100 of them. If you’re travelling by car you can self-park on site for £25 per day, or ask for valet service (at the same cost).

Norton House Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh

A sybaritic 20 minutes from the city centre, Norton House Hotel & Spa is surrounded by fields and wooded grounds near the village of Ratho. You get the best of both worlds here: a countryside setting plus access to the sights and attractions of Edinburgh which can be reached in 30 minutes by car or around 45 minutes by bus. This also means you can park your car on site for free.

Inside, it’s all about high-Victorian excess which lends a distinctly romantic feel ─ think carved Italianate arches on the staircase landing, and ornate green-and-gold ceiling panels in the drawing room. After a day exploring Edinburgh, shake the city off with a couple of hours in the spa followed by afternoon tea or a hearty Scottish meal in the brasserie. Rooms are quietly comfortable, which is exactly what you want.

Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa, Edinburgh

This is a corporate-leaning hotel ─ but that doesn’t mean you’ll look out of place if you walk around with your glad rags on. Perfectly positioned for exploring the nearby shops, nightlife and sights, Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa’s Festival Square location is a real boon. Edinburgh Castle and the New Town are easily reachable on foot, and multiple bars, pubs and restaurants surround the hotel.

Back at base however, the One Square restaurant is probably one of the city’s best-kept secrets and there’s a decent spa with an indoor pool and an infinity hydro pool to keep you busy. On-site parking costs £17.50 for the day or £5 per hour. There are Tesla-charging facilities, too.

Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, Edinburgh

This vibrant spot in New Town (but only a 15-minute walk to Old Town) is for travellers who value a great city-centre location but not at the cost of a stylish place to stay. Enter Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, a vibrant, eclectic bolthole set behind an imposing Georgian exterior. Big colours dominate interiors with heavily framed pictures, artworks, and textiles splashed across walls, and every space has a unique identity whether it’s the Garden Room festooned with hanging plants or the more understated, elegant bedroom.

BABA is the spot for dishes like haggis merguez sausages with Yemenite hot sauce, while imaginative fare from Aizle takes you on a fine-dining, tasting-course adventure. Don’t miss the opportunity to try out the spa and swimming pool, either. If you’re bringing your wheels, there is limited on-site parking at £40 a day.

Prestonfield House, Edinburgh

Expect lots of dark velvets, antiques, flickering candles, log fires, and moody colours at this deeply romantic bolthole next to Arthur’s Seat. Prestonfield House is a 10-minute drive to Princes Street in the centre but this means that there’s ample free parking at the hotel.

Artworks and curios greet you at every turn ─ from the prints of pre-Victorian Edinburgh to the 17th-century ceiling carved by Italian artisans ─ and rooms are deliciously decadent with sink-into beds, freestanding baths and views over the gardens and parkland (spot the roving peacocks). In terms of restaurants, fine dining is a treat at Rhubarb Restaurant, as is afternoon tea. This is a special spot, and one that beholds a theatrical sense of occasion.
