When it comes to booking a hotel, we all have various priorities that we deem important. Whether it's a stocked mini bar and a massive bath, or 15 different types of pillow on the bed, every holiday-goer will have a different thing that they class as a must-have.
But if there's one thing we can definitely all agree on, it's that there's no beating an ocean view when you're on a beach holiday. Waking up, throwing open the curtains and looking at the waves crashing in is pretty special, right?
Er, right - providing you can actually see the sea. According to Business Insider, one of the most common holiday scams involves customers thinking they've booked a room with an ocean view, when in reality they don't actually face the sea. Instead, they have a partial ocean view.
"[An] 'ocean view' simply means you get at least a sliver of a view from somewhere in the room," Jeff Russell, an entertainment travel consultant at Aspen Travel told the publication. This might mean you have to crane your head left to see the beach, or your view is partially blocked by other buildings.
"An oceanfront room actually faces the ocean," he continues. "If a hotel lists both an oceanfront room and an ocean-view room, know for a fact that the ocean-view will not be looking right out on the ocean."
This is very important intel to keep in mind next time you're booking a hotel stay. If you're desperate for a balcony facing the ocean head on? You'll likely have to pay premium for the front of the hotel, as opposed to a view.
